Noosa Heads
Noosa Heads Australia's North Shore has a huge wilderness region which boasts some of Queensland's best ocean beaches. 4WD trips along the beach up to the wreck of the Cherry Venture, are extremely popular with the locals and tourists alike, while the Teewah Coloured Sands, on the Cooloola National Park's "forty-mile" beach, are reputed to be one of the world's largest coloured sand masses and over seventy distinct colours have been reported.
Noosa's waterways are
equally as popular as holiday destinations. The main river runs through
a tidal lake system that offers many very private mooring spots for
houseboat and pleasure craft.
Boreen Point is on the most extreme northern expanse of water on Lake Cootharaba where the small sailing craft hold their national and international championships.
This unique yacht club
has regular regatta days and visitors are always most welcome. There
is also a local store and an excellent restaurant overlooking the
shoreline. A caravan park and camping completes the holiday amenities.
The coastal strip offers great surf fishing, and has traditionally been a favourite spot for locals to go camping. Areas in the Northern sector of Cooloola are set aside for camping, and a great deal of effort has gone into preserving this region as a natural destination. If you don't wish to camp on the beach there is a track into Freshwater Lake that has suitable amenities.
Access to the Noosa North Shore is via vehicular ferry which operates from 6a.m. to 10p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 6a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
The Noosa North Shore has the Lake Cooroibah Holiday Park that is complete with camping ground/caravan park, individual motels and apartments and includes the Sundowner hotel that also has a licensed restaurant. This complex has a general store, fuel, camping supplies, bait and tackle.
You can also hire a canoe or take a guided horse ride along the beach. Camel rides are also available adjacent to the park.
This excellent complex enables the adventure camper to get supplies without having to venture back to the populated southern shore of the Noosa River.
